Connect ChatGPT
About 2 minutes. You need a Sharedrop account.
ChatGPT can't run the CLI, so you add Sharedrop as a connector. ChatGPT signs in through the browser; API keys do not work here.
Add Sharedrop
Go to chatgpt.com/plugins, press + and choose Add custom MCP server. Name it Sharedrop and paste this address:
https://sharedrop.cloud/api/mcpSign in
Choose OAuth for sign-in and press Create. Install it, then approve the Sharedrop sign-in in the browser window that opens.
Try it
In a chat, type @Sharedrop, then:
Make a one-page summary of this conversation and share it with ShareDrop.Optional: custom instructions
ChatGPT has no skills. To help it know when to use Sharedrop, paste this into your custom instructions or a project's instructions:
You have Sharedrop tools for sharing documents. Whenever you produce HTML, Markdown,
a PDF, or an image the user should see or hand to someone else, upload it to Sharedrop
and reply with the live URL. Call whoami once per session. Default visibility is
"private"; use "public" only when the user explicitly asks to publish. To update an
existing page, re-upload with the same page_id and the URL stays stable. To share with a
specific person, call share_with_email. Never invent a URL: surface the exact URL the
upload response returns, on its own line.Check it worked
ChatGPT replies with a sharedrop.cloud link that opens your new page, private to you until you share it.
If it doesn't work
- No Add custom MCP server option: turn on Developer mode under Settings, Apps, Advanced, then try again.
- The option is still missing on a work account: your workspace settings may not allow custom servers, so ask your admin.
- ChatGPT answers without a link: type @Sharedrop at the start of your message.
