Versions

Re-upload a file to the same page and the link stays the same. The version it replaces is kept, so you can go back to it later.

Free plans keep no earlier versions. Pro keeps the last 10 and Team keeps the last 25. When a page goes over its limit, the oldest version is removed.

Each version keeps your original file

A version holds everything the page needs: what viewers see, the source behind it, its images and other files, and the exact file you uploaded, byte for byte. For a folder upload, that is every file in the folder as you sent it, including your index.html before Sharedrop rewrote its links.

For PDFs, videos, images, JSON and JSONL files, the file viewers see already is your upload, so it is not stored twice.

Restore brings back the whole version

Restoring a version puts all of it back: the page, its source, its images and files, and its original upload. Anything the restored version did not have is removed from the live page, so a restored page never mixes in files from a newer upload. The Copy button returns the restored version's text.

Restoring also saves the version you are leaving, so you can switch back.

A version that was blocked by moderation cannot be restored, and shows Not restorable.

Download a version

Open a page and go to its Versions tab. Each version, including the latest, has a Download button. The History window on a page in your dashboard list has one beside Restore too.

Download gives you exactly the file you uploaded for that version, byte for byte. A folder upload downloads as a zip of the folder as you sent it.

You see the button on your own pages, and in a workspace on every page in it, whatever your role: owners, members and viewers can all download, while only owners and members can restore. People you share a page with cannot download its versions.

Some versions saved before this feature have no original file, so they show no Download button.

An image or video version saved while its moderation check was still pending cannot be downloaded.

From agents

Agents and scripts can do the same with an API key, under the same rules:

  • CLI: sharedrop versions <page> lists the versions, and sharedrop download <page> --version 2 (or --version latest) saves that version's original. See the CLI guide.
  • API: GET /api/v1/pages/:id/versions and GET /api/v1/pages/:id/versions/:version/download. See the API reference.
  • MCP: list_versions, then fetch_page with version. See MCP.

Storage

Your original files count toward your storage, both on the live page and in each kept version. The storage check at upload allows for the kept original, so an HTML or SVG file needs room for about twice its size, and a Markdown, code or text file about three times (the page, its source and the original).

Older versions

Versions saved before this change kept only the page viewers saw, not the file you uploaded. They still restore as before, but they have no original file. PDFs, videos, images, JSON and JSONL files are the exception: their saved page already is the uploaded file.
